Sunglint on the Alabama Waterway

.In this June 26, 2023, photograph taken from the International Spaceport station, sunlight shines off the smooth waters of the Alabama Stream in a phenomenon called sunglint. When capturing on film Earth, astronauts often make the most of sunglint's inclination to raise the contrast between water surface areas and surrounding land areas. In the 1960s, the Alabama Stream was clogged, generating Dannelly Storage tank (the large polishing location at center left). Construction of the dam also reared water levels upriver. This led to flooding at many points along the river. These flooded zones are actually traditional of floodplains-- the low, flat regions right away beside bigger rivers. In this picture, disaster area seem like off-balance, bright shapes prolonging away from the waterway, like at Gee's Bend (center bottom).Text Credit Score: Justin Wilkinson.Image Credit Score: NASA/Woody Hoburg.
